Think ... Before You Wipe

toilet paper overload

Toilet paper, paper towels and tissues aren't on my list of conversation topics but they are equally important in helping the Earth. It's hard for me to believe that there are still companies cutting down trees to make toilet paper, paper towels and tissues. They are big name companies that we've all heard and you may even be buying their products. Here are some interesting facts:

  • If every household in the United States replaced just one roll of virgin fiber toilet paper (500 sheets) with 100% recycled ones, we could save 423,900 trees
  • If every household in the United States replaced just one box of virgin fiber facial tissues (175 sheets) with 100% recycled ones, we could save 163,000 trees
  • If every household in the United States replaced just one roll of virgin fiber paper towels (70 sheets) with 100% recycled ones, we could save 544,000 trees. Better yet, swap out 15 rolls of paper towels for a reusable and biodegradable Skoy Cloth http://skoycloth.com/

Here's a full list of companies making great tissue products with high recycled content - and believe me it's soft on the tush! http://www.nrdc.org/land/forests/gtissue.asp

My office uses Marcal Toilet Tissue which is now 100% recycled and 60% post consumer recycled. It's inexpensive and comes in bulk!
